The Marauder is a tiki take on the old-fashioned. The drink is seasoned with Jerry Thomas Decanter Bitters, falernum, and orange curaçao. The recipe for decanter bitters comes from Jerry Thomas’ book “The Bar-tenders Guide,” published in 1862. Decanter bitters have all-spice, cinnamon, and clove. All of which are spices that conjure tropical islands. Falernum is a cordial from the Caribbean that’s long been associated with tiki drinks. It’s an almond syrup spiced with an intense lime and spice flavor. Orange curaçao is a bar staple that goes into numerous classic drinks, but the strong citrus flavor certainly lends to the tropical medley.
The Marauder is on Hard Truth Distillery’s 2023 cocktail menu at the Tours & Tastings Center’s bar.
