Satisfy your thirst

Some call it a quest!

Embark on a voyage across the vast canvas of history and imagination, where the allure of boundless possibilities propelled fearless explorers to scour continents and sail the seven seas on a quest for the most elusive of flavors, enchanted elixirs, and fabled potions.

My name is Kevin Goodman; I’m a cocktail connoisseur, a mixologist, and a bar manager / general manager. I initially conceived of the name “Fabled Potion” when writing a business plan for my bar. As a bar-concept, Fabled Potion was a tiki-ish exotic cocktail bar. I’m hesitant to use the word “tiki” in preference for the word “exotic” because tiki doesn’t capture my vision, nor did the original tiki-man himself, Don Beach, use the word. At any rate, the idea was broader… it was an allusion to a mysterious and exotic place, to wonderous concoctions that not only drew inspiration from the fantasy of exotic lands but the grander history of spirits and cocktails as potions–taken from a history of monkish concoctions, and medicinal bitters, and patent medicines.

I temporarily suspended my goal of opening my own establishment for writing about my passion. Fabled Potion is a blog about cocktails. There is no hard angle here, but I am intensely interested in the history of spirits and cocktails alongside that of alchemy and the apothecary and appreciate their close and related histories. This “twist” certainly comes through in my reflections as well as my creative recipes.

I have been involved in homebrewing, making cordials, and studying the history of cocktails for more than a decade. I have an interdisciplinary master’s degree in social psychology and communication studies, a forensic criminology graduate certificate (forensic profiling), and a master’s degree in criminal justice. I have worked as an investigator, BUT my passion has always been a quest for the perfect formula, the perfect elixir; hence, here we are! I’m the General Manager of a craft distillery’s Tours & Tastings Center. My opinions, as voiced on this website, are my own and do not necessarily reflect the views of my employer.
